FALL 2016:
FANTASY & MAGIC MAKE-A-PLAY
A Creative Performing Arts Workshop led by Dawn Holtan
magicfantasymakeaplayThis Experientialists workshop is made possible by a unique partnership with Curiosity Hacked’s CHILL program. Our performances will take place during the December CHILL Exhibition. However, you do not need to be a CHILL participant to join this workshop!
Calling all magical actors, dancers, and creative improvisers!
We will create our own one-of-a-kind, completely character-driven performance…from scratch! Our starting point will be to develop unique fantasy-based characters. Each participant will create at least one character, with a backstory, mannerisms and movement style, and a specific “look.” We will explore how we can create stories by connecting these unique characters—what happens when a werewolf encounters a flower fairy? Or when the dark elven princess stumbles into a bevy of starlight sorceresses? What if a street urchin discovers his magical powers by saving his little sister from an evil goblin king? The stories that we create will become our performance, with everyone working together to make one cohesive play. The performance itself will take place in a new world, created by CHILL participants as part of their art exhibition. The audience will be immersed in our performance, with scenes taking place in different parts of the art exhibition. We will develop the performance while CHILL develops the art exhibit, so that we use the space and draw attention to different aspects of the exhibition with our play. We will perform at Curiosity Hacked, December 9th through December 11th, with multiple performances throughout the weekend. Participants must be able to create unique fantasy & magic based characters, generate stories about their characters, follow directions, work independently and with others, and be excited about creating a new site-specific devised theater performance piece.
